My Personal Journeys....

Hello,  =)
My name is Ami, I'm 28-years  old from Texas. I'm going have double jaw surgery on December 2, 2013. It is coming up very soon. I'm having my upper narrow also under cross-bite alignment fixed. This would be my documentary description prior to progress; therefore, I'll try to cover as much information; the purpose of having jaws surgery, the preparation, and the period that leads up to the procedure and post-operation for you. To learn more about my procedure I've read books, also looked at others blogs about jaw correction on the internet similar to my case, which has been really helpful. So...I  thought I would start one as well to share my experience, concerns, questions and how I find guidance or reassurance about facing this major surgery.

I visited my dentist back early January 2011  for a cleaning. Dr. Viot suggested that I needed some orthodontic work because I have a severely uneven bite that needed to be adjusted, otherwise I would be losing my teeth in the long run. Omg! that really scared me! So I decided to get  ceramic (a clear unnoticeable type of braces. My orthodontic informed I should take into consideration; saving up for orthognathic surgery. The cost and the times investment was A LOT more than I ever expected it to be. I knew for the purpose of surgery was necessary because wearing braces to correct malocclusion (the poor fitting of my upper and lower teeth) just won't do.. To reposition both my upper and lower jaw to get a better fit between the jaws I need surgery; therefore, that is the only way that I could get the best result.

About 6 months into having my braces on, Dr. Reddy, my orthodontist, referred me to maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Edgen  (who also will correct my jaws surgery) to have my four wisdom teeth extracted.  I was put under for a least an hour, when I woke I felt a little bleary from the side effects of the anesthesia. I just slept the whole day after that. I think the pain medicine did a lot to help, because I didn't remember feeling any sort of pain. Just a bit of swelling. Actually, after second day I stopped the pain killer and continued the course of antibiotics until I finished it. The only funny/gross thing was that I had to use a syringe to pump out food that was stuck inside the pocket where the wisdom teeth had been taken out. After about two weeks I had healed up pretty nicely.

I will upload pictures before braces and how I looked with braces after two years on my next post. I also would like to get into detail how braces has mildly change the appearance of my mouth, teeths, smile, biting and eating. To sum it up; my experience having braces. I'm also expecting to visit Dr. Edgin, for impression, measurement and x-ray next week and ill try to update those for you as Thank for stopping by to view my blog. Please share you question or your experience and I love to answer to any of your questions.
